Set in an archipelago of coral fringed islands, Lamu Town was a trading centre for spices and ivory for one hundred years.
This tradition has contributed to the Swahili culture, a mix of african, arabian and indian influence.
There are no cars on the island and transport is by dhow (traditional african sailing boat), donkey or foot.

Shela village is a tangle of narrow sandy lanes, stone houses covered with Makuti thatched roof, mosques, ruins and spacious squares edged with small shops.
Shela beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It’s crescent shape offers 12 kms of golden sand on the indian ocean. It is ideal for swimming.
